  1. IBT & CBT Created By: EkoNurvianto FarizaniNurFajrina Fatimah Azzahra

  2. The Understanding of IBT IBT or Internet Based Testing is a form of competence, skill or knowledge assessment through computer or internet. Web Based Testing (WBT).(Roever, 2001) Has the similar characteristics with Computer Based Testing (CBT).

  3. The Understanding of CBT • Computer Based Testing is a form of assessment or test which is carried out through electronic devices (electronic exam)

  4. CBT’s Positive • More frequent use of formative and summative test or assessment. • Test/assessment result is more quickly distributed to teacher, so they can prepare appropriate learning materials sooner. • It provides opportunities for students to test personally (self-assessment) b the time they are ready. • It is able to increase students’ self esteem • It is more preferred b students because the result is known faster

  5. The Negative of CBT • Has its challenges in the terms of knowledge and mastery of computer use; and barriers which comes from hardware; behavior or attitude of the test participant; and the question format that really assess students academic ability. …Scalise and Gifford (2006), Fluck et al (2009) and Shin (2009)…

  6. IBT APPLICATION • IBT example using Drupal 6 Drupal is a PHP-based Content Management System (CMS). Drupal CMS can also be downloaded and freely developed as it is open source. Drupal has a vast potential development in various fields.

  7. The Drupal usability in general: • Community Portal Site • News Publishing • Aficionado Sites • Intranet/Corporate Web Sites • Resource Directories • International Sites • Education • Art, Music, Multimedia • Social networking sites

  8. Drupalbased IBT offers functionally in which it has various quiz types, multimedia compatibility, god administration and management practically. The outline of IBT application is stated as follows: • Administrator provided IBT, students’ username and password, and polls. • Student visited “hartoyomedia.OOOspace.com” • Students logged in to the website using username and password given. • Students did the quiz. • Students filled out on-line polls after they have finished doing the quiz. • Students updated students account and chage students password for security reason. • Administrator managed IBT result and polls.

  9. The advantages of Drupal: The advantages Drupalbased IBT application: • Various quiz types, • Scoring flexibility, • Multimedia compatibility, • Systematic data base and administration, • Ease and secure usage, • Stable, secure, and robust performance. The further development, teacher can install gradebookmodule as students’ report, learning activities, assignments, etc. drupal also enables administrator (teacher)to manage users’ role whether the user is test taker, teacher, administrator, or others.

  10. The disadvantages of Drupal: A) Development There are some obstacles to consider in developing drupal: • Internet Connection • Downloading Drupal core and modules need robust internet connection. • Human Resource • This problem emerges because the developer/researcher has limited skill in developing website as a beginner. However, by realizing the huge benefit researcher needs to hone his skill. • Time Allocation • In order to get a good website with appealing appearance and functionality developer needs enough time allocation. Bear in mind that a website is not one shot project, however, a continuous project. • Hosting • The IBT prototype was hosted to a free hosting “OOOspace.com”. it served well, however the disk capacity and services was limited. In order to get better service it is suggested to use commercial hosting. By considering this reason, website with the URL “hartoyomedia.OOOspace.com” was upgraded to “hartoyomedia.com”.

  11. B) Application While the obstacles found in IBT application were: • Notebook Availability • Not all of the students had notebook, so that some of them had borrow them from their friend. • Internet Connection • Almost all of students used wireless hot spot services provided by the department, and only few of them used personal modem. The internet connection was very limited to accommodate test takers as a result the connection was slow. • Power Outlet • Power outlet availability needs to consider. Many notebooks had to be recharged before test takers finished doing the test. Unfortunately power outlets were not enough. • Students Honesty • The major concern in IBT application is students’ honesty, because internet provides “unlimited” information in almost all fields, students could easily browse to the references they needed. Better system and better attitude is absolutely needed.

  12. Students’ response

  13. Summary Science and technology development opens wider chances in almost all aspect of life, including education ICT can be utilized not only in teaching and learning, but also in testing. Computer Based Testing (CBT) or Internet Based Testing (IBT) is used wider and wider as a means of assessment. The benefits of IBT and CBT are; flexibility, speed, wide range, and ability to accommodate students with special needs. Meanwhile a number of obstacles in the information of CBT or IBT come from knowledge and mastery about computer, hardware and software, test participants behavior or attitude, and the questions format that really assesses students’ academic ability.
