Where is Business Intelligencein SharePoint 2010? • Where it used to be: • Display Reporting Services Reports in web parts • Reporting Services in SharePoint-integrated mode • Simple KPI lists (now called status lists) • Excel Services: dynamic Excel Reports in a web browser • Now also directly integrated: • New site template “Business Intelligence Center” • PerformancePoint Services (PPS) 2010 is the next generation corporate performance-management application from Microsoft • Now a SharePoint 2010 service application • End-users can create KPIs and scorecards themselves • Interactive reports and analysis in the web

Data Source Element • Defines connection to business data used by PerformancePoint applications • Types include: • Supports Analysis Services 2005 and later • Preferred type is Analysis Services • Delivers high-performance query results • Cubes can be enriched with KPI definitions and referenced by KPI elements • Supports interactive features in scorecards and analytic reports

Indicator Element • Sets of graphics, text, and colors used to define different levels of performance when comparing a KPI actual to target • Two types: • Centered or Standard • Can include 2-10 levels • Additionally, all indicators include a No Data level • Predefined indicators include: • Gauges, Stoplights, Smiley Faces, Progress Bars, Thermometers, and more

  12. KPI Element • Predefined measure used to track performance of a strategic goal, objective, plan, initiative, or business process • For example, Market Share % • Compares and evaluates actual to target metrics

  13. Scorecard Element • Depicts organizational performance by displaying a collection of KPIs together with performance targets for those KPIs • Can be organized hierarchically using: • Objectives and non-leaf KPIs • Multi-level hierarchies • Supports annotations

Viewing Scorecards • In their web browsers, users can: • Interact with the scorecard toolbar (if enabled) • Filter by status • Modify rollup type • Expand/collapse hierarchies • Sort metrics • Filter metrics • By value • Top/Bottom N • Add or read comments (if enabled) • Show details (PPS “Drillthrough”) • Analyze using a decomposition tree

Other Report Types • Excel Services • „Excel Web Access“, displays an Excel workbook or parts of it • Reporting Services • Renders a Reporting Services report, with or without toolbar • Unfortunately poor user feedback provided • Web Page • Will display any URL! • All report types can receive parameters from dashboard filters!

Filter Element • Added to dashboards so that users can modify the view • Can relate to multiple dashboards • Typically used to filter data • Also used to pass values to Scorecard and Report axes • Filter types are: • Display type configurable: • List, Tree, Multi-Select Tree, Calendar Control

Dashboard Element • Collection of pages that group related interactive scorecards and reports • Is the only item that is deployed to SharePoint • Dashboards are assembled from: • Filters • Scorecards • Reports • Connections are defined between the assembled items to allow values to be sent and received
