The adjectives fat, fatter and fattest are called the positive, comparative and superlative respectively. • For most adjectives of one syllable and some two-syllable adjectives –eris added to for comparatives and –est is added to form superlatives. Example : big  bigger  biggest small  smaller  smallest

  3. For adjectives of two or more syllables, the comparative is formed by adding more / less before the adjective, and the superlative is formed by adding most / least before the adjective. • Several adjectives have irregular comparatives and superlatives and follow a different pattern.

  4. EXERCISE 1 : Give the correct forms of the adjectives in the following sentences. • How is Sebastian? Is he _________ (good) today? • Mr Lee is the_________ (rich) man in town. • The_________ (long) river in Malaysia is Sungai Rajang. • Which is the _________ (tall) building in the world? • The public is the_________ (good) judge. • Lead is _________ (heavy) than sodium. • Hazirah needs a _________ (nutritious) diet than the one she is following now. • He gave the boys a _________ (valuable) lesson in life. • Among all her classmates, Joel lives the _________ (far). • Of the two evils, he chose the _________ (little) one.
