  2. Modern Studies at Standard Grade is based on a number of key concepts. We need to understand these concepts and the subjects they cover which are: Representation Rights & Responsibilities Need Equality Power Ideology Participation The Concepts

  3. To cover all these concepts we study four major areas. Each area will cover one or more of the concepts mentioned These areas are: Living in a Democracy Changing Society International Relations The Politics of Aid United States Race United States Government The Topics

What use is Modern Studies? • Modern Studies is a recognised as an entrance qualification in all universities • It is particularly useful for those intending a career in • Media & Journalism • Police, armed forces, Health Service • Civil Service, Law, accountancy • Education • Postal services • Social services

  13. Health Warning Modern Studies is not an easy option You should be interested in what is happening in Britain and the world today You will need to read newspapers and watch news programmes Modern Studies has a high POLITICAL content. If you don’t like politics stay clear of Modern Studies
