The teacher who… • …has been in many middle school classrooms and has seen incredible things. • …has three funny and entertaining kids (and I bet they are a lot like you!). • …loves her dog, scary movies, mountain biking, dancing, middle schoolers, being outside, and singing in the car. • …is very excited to teach you and learn from you this year.

  3. I have one basic rule.It applies to everyone (including me). Ready? Are you SURE? Wait for it…

  4. respect Dictionary.com: Esteem foror a sense of the worth orexcellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality orability: I have great respect for herjudgment. Urban Dictionary.com: It means valuing each others points of views. It means being open to being wrong. It means accepting people as they are. It means not dumping on someone because you're having a bad day. It means being polite and kind always, because being kind to people is not negotiable. It means not dissing people because they're different than you. It means not gossiping about people or spreading lies.

  5. Respect is the rule • Respect the Teacher. Follow directions the first time they are given. • Respect Others. Keep language and actions polite, encouraging and school-appropriate; and keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. • Respect the Content. Be on task and engaged during learning and work times. • Respect the Learning Materials. Bring your binder, paper, and pencil to class every day. • Respect School Policy. All electronics are to be off and out of sight.

  6. Respect The Teacher • Follow directions the first time they are given. • Raise your hand when you want to speak. • Stay in your seat when instruction is being given. • Give respect to get respect. Do Not

  7. Respect each other • Keep language and actions polite, encouraging and school-appropriate. • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. • Do not be a distraction by moving around when others are trying to learn. Hands to yourself. • Positive feedback only!

  8. Respect the Content • Be on task and engaged during instruction and work times. • Take charge of your learning! Active Learners are the most successful. • SLANT to show you are an active learner. • Turn assignments in on time. • Make up missed work. • Be on time for class.

  10. Respect the Materials • Bring binder, pencil and paper every day to class. • These are YOUR learning materials. Treat them respectfully! Don’t waste supplies. Be careful with books. Gum goes in the trash, not under tables. • The teacher’s desk and stand are off-limits. • When you borrow a pencil, put it back! • If you break something that is mine, you will replace it (preferably with a better one!) 

  11. Respect school policy • All electronics are to be off and out of sight. • Hall passes required. • Follow the 10-Minute Rule for bathroom breaks. • Learning Recovery is for YOUR benefit!

  12. Respect Yourself • Know that you will make mistakes. Be O.K. with it! • Set boundaries with those who are disrespectful. Reduce conflict respectfully. Don’t be afraid to • speak up for your rights. • Set goals, and know you can reach them. You will! • You are a valuable and necessary part of this classroom. We’d be lost without you!

Class Expectations • Put your first and last name and the date in the upper right-hand corner of every assignment. • Clean up materials/supplies before class ends. • Late work: Five points will be taken off assignments for each day they are late, and ten for projects! • Check the Absent Work station the first day you are back. You have one day for every absent day to make up work up, plus an extra day. • When we walk as a class in the hallway, we will walk single file with zero talking.

  17. One Last thing… • I’m so excited to get to know you this year. We are going to learn things and do things and work very hard, and we’re also going to have fun. Please feel free to share your successes or anything that is bothering you… my door is always open! • We are a classroom family, and this is our story. • We can write it any way we choose!
