Greeting and saying goodbye • It is an important rule that we must obey. • We have to greet when we meet a partner or a teacher. • In Turkey, men greet before women. In Spain people kiss on both cheeks if they haven't seen each other for a long time.
Caller’s name • It is polite to introduce the caller’s name during the conversation. • If the caller prefers : • We can use the nickname • We can use Mister, Miss… • When people don't have much relationship it has to be used “usted” (third person of the singular)
Introducing people • To introduce ourselves, we use different levels of cordiality. It depens on the person to whom we are speaking. • We kiss on both cheeks or handshake. • We use expressions as: • Hi, I am…
Requests and invitations • They have to be done in a calm and appropiate moment. • With authority we must give explanations. • To refuse an invitation we must do it politely, trying not to offend the other person
Complaints and protests • A complaint is: • A sign of pain, pity, dissatisfaction… • A protest is: • A sign that shows mainly dissatisfaction .
Criticism • It is the expression of a feeling about something (a task, a job, a work art…) • It can be: • Positive • Negative • We have to avoid hurting the other person’s feelings.
To excuse • We have to excuse ourselves when: • We consider that we have done something wrong. • We cause a trouble to someone or something. • Using gestures helps.
Compliment, congratulation and condolence • They show the appreciation of people when someone suffers or they do something right. • We congratulate: when somebody has done a good work, in celebrations… • To show or offer someone’s condolences is to cheer the other person up.
Gratitudes • When a person does something for us, we must thank it. • If we know the person’s name, we have to mention it.
Aggressiveness control an attenuation of the disagreement. • Controlling the aggressiveness is very important • If we are aggressive, it would be more difficult that people agree with us. • To attenuate the disagreement we must: • Listen to others. • Reach a common idea where everybody will be flattered
