Main Idea • The main idea of a story or paragraph is what the paragraph or story is about. • The main idea is usually the first sentence in a paragraph, but sometimes the main idea is not said at all. • Examples • Koalas eat eucalyptus leaves. They can eat more than 10 pounds a day! They spend most of their lives eating eucalyptus leaves. • Think: What is this paragraph about? • The main idea is Koalas eat eucalyptus leaves. Next

Because there is no light, some squid light up. This is called an adaptation that the squid has. Adaptations help animals stay alive.
