  2. Finland’s Population • Based on source Statistics Finland : Finland has a preliminary population figure of 5,448,025 people at the end of October 2013 • Population increase of Finland is mainly from immigrants which were 14,750 persons higher than that of emigrants

  4. Finland Birth Rate • As of April 12, 2013, Statistics Finland reports that the Birth Rate of Finland is 1.8 children per woman • The Birth Rate continues to decrease slowly from 4.9 children per woman in 1969

  6. Finland Death Rate • According to the World Bank Map July 2012, the death rate of Finland is 10.3 persons per 1,000 people. • 10.3/1000= 0.013= 1.3% Death Rate • Finland’s Death Rate increases slowly each year

  8. Infant Mortality Rate • As of 2013, Kaiser Family Foundation reports 3.34 deaths per 1,000 live births • 3.34/1000 = 0.00334 = 0.33% Infant Mortality Rate

  9. Life Expectancy Rate • As of 2013, The World Bank reports the life expectancy of a male as 75.94 years and females at 83.02 years

Education • The main reason why I chose Finland was mainly because of the education system. • “There are no mandated standardized tests in Finland, apart from one exam at the end of students’ senior year in high school. There are no rankings, no comparisons or competition between students, schools or regions. Finland’s schools are publicly funded. The people in the government agencies running them, from national officials to local authorities, are educators, not business people, military leaders or career politicians.” • This form of education Has allowed Finland to be ranked 2nd in Education as of 2009 OECD Education Reports

Education (con’t) • “The present Finnish education system consists of daycare programs (for babies and toddlers) and a one-year "pre-school" (or kindergarten for six-year-olds); a nine-year compulsory basic comprehensive school (starting at age seven and ending at the age of fifteen); post-compulsory secondary general academic and vocational education; higher education (University and University of Applied Sciences); and adult (lifelong, continuing) education. The Nordic strategy for achieving equality and excellence in education has been based on constructing a publicly funded comprehensive school system without selecting, tracking, or streaming students during their common basic education.” • 100% Literacy Rate • 99.7% Graduating Primary School

  14. Primary Industries • Pulp and Paper Industry- Forest products were the major export industry. Pulp and Paper Industry accounted for half of Finnish exports in the 1970s. There are 52 sites in Finland for this industry and the major companies are ranked #1 and #3 • Chemical Industry- Finland's largest industrial sectors with its roots in tar making in the 17th century. It produces plastics, chemicals, paints, oil products, pharmaceuticals, environmental products, biotech products and petrochemicals. Biotechnology is regarded as one of the most promising high-tech sectors in Finland and it is growing rapidly

  16. Income Per Capita • As of 2012 The World Bank reports a $36,500 GDP per capita

  19. Demographic Transition IV • Currently Finland is in a Stage 4 Transition stage due to to statistics stressed earlier. There are low birth and death rates with an extremely high population growth in immigrants.
