  1. What is Quantum Key Distribution? Quantum key distribution, commonly known as QKD, is a secure communication method that can implement a cryptographic protocol that consists of components of quantum mechanics. QKD enables two parties in order to offer a shared random secret key known to them that can be used to encrypt as well as decrypt messages. It is inappropriate known as quantum cryptography – best example of a quantum cryptographic task. A unique property of quantum key distribution is the ability of two communicating users in order to detect the presence of third party willing to get knowledge of the key. It results from a fundamental aspect of quantum mechanics. The entire process of measuring a quantum system disturbs the system. A third party looking for eavesdrop on the key must measure it and introduce detectable anomalies. With the help of quantum super positions or quantum entanglement, a communication system can be implemented in order to detect eavesdropping. If the level of eavesdropping is a certain threshold, a key can be delivered that is guaranteed to be secure, otherwise no secure key is possible as well as communication is aborted. The security of encryption that includes QKD depends on the foundations of quantum mechanics. Quantum key distribution has provable security on the basis of information theory and forward secrecy.
