CALCULATING EMFs FOR REDOX REACTIONS AND CELLS Just as half reactions can be added to form complete redox reactions, so too standard electrode potentials can be combined to calculate EMFs of complete reactions. As an illustration, let us calculate the EMF of the reaction of copper with silver ions:
