  2. I dreamed I stood in a studioAnd watched two sculptors there.The clay they used was a young child's mindAnd they fashioned it with care. One was a teacher - the tools she usedWere book, music, and art.The other, a parent, worked with a guiding handAnd a gentle, loving heart. Day after day, the teacher toiled with touchThat was careful, deft and sure.While the parents labored by his sideAnd polished and smoothed it o'er. And when at last their work was doneThey were proud of what they had wrought.For things they had molded into the childCould neither be sold nor bought.   3. Reagan “Rigor” • Quality, NOT Quantity • Deep immersion • Complex, challenging • In order to move our students toward more challenging work, we must provide scaffolding to support them as they learn.

  4. CurriculumReading: • A balanced literacy approach to reading instruction. • 90 minutes of Reading Instruction • Phonics/Reading/Writing • Weekly Vocabulary, Comprehension and Spelling Assessments

  5. 60 minutes of Guided Reading • Rigorous work stations which allows teacher to differentiate instruction for each individual student • Istation used in place of TPRI

  6. Accelerated Reader • Reagan will participate in AR campus- wide • Begins Sept. 10 • Students are encouraged to meet individual goals.

  7. Math • C-Scope – District • Other resources • Educational Videos • Extensive use of manipulatives • Interactive journal • Develop Problem Solving Skills (UPSC Plan)

  8. Science/Social Studies • C-Scope-district • Science and Social Studies integrated with Language Arts and Math when appropriate as well as direct instruction • Interactive Journal • Experiments/Research/Projects

  9. Special Areas • Technology • Music • P.E. (daily) • Library (daily book exchange)

  10. Grading • Numerical grade given on report card in Language Arts (Spelling, Writing, Language),Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies • E, S, N, or U given in Health, Music, P.E., Art, and Conduct • Formative and Summative Assessments

  11. Grading • Numerical grade on paper signifies recorded in gradebook; stamps, smiley faces, checkmarks, etc. indicate no grade recorded • Any paper with a numerical grade below 80 is to be signed by parent and returned to school in take-home folder.

  12. Homework • See Handbook “H” page • Assigned Monday-Thursday • Should be validated by a signature daily

  13. Homework cont.. • Reading is assigned for 20 minutes per night. • Parents review weekly papers on Friday

  14. Math Math Homework: • 80% Problem Solving • Daily concept skills & Spiral Reviews • Show Work • Drill Add. & Sub. Facts (Flashcards)

Awards • See handbook under “Awards” • Principals- Grade above 90% and all letter grades of “E” • A Honor Roll- All A’s and “S” in citizenship • Perfect Homework Award • Citizenship • Perfect Attendance- see “Perfect Attendance (District Policy)” Leave early days and tardies (w/ no doctor documentation leaves a student ineligible for Perfect Attendance acknowledgement)
