  2. Introduction We are goingtotalkaboutallthemythicalcreaturesthat are traditional in ourregion. Some are nice, some are scary, butthey are all original from Extremadura. Ourfavourite are: Lobisome, theBogeyman and theElves. We hope youenjoywhatwehaveprepared.

  3. Whatis a Werewolf? A werewolf or werewolf, also known as a lycanthrope, is a mythological human with the ability to change into a wolf or an creature, either purposely, by being bitten or scratched by another werewolf, or after being placed under a curse. This transformation is often associated with the appearance of the full moon.

  15. La Genti de Muerti Thismythisabout a couplethatride a horseand vanishintothefog. Ifyouaskthemwhothey are, theywillanswer «Genti de Muerti». They look for a soulthatwill die everynight.

  19. Elves These are littlepeoplewithpriestclothesorlikelittleogres. In differentzones in Extremadura, theyhaddifferentnames: Hurdes: «Duendi Jampón» Jerte valley: Pomporilla

  20. Elves Theelves in «Garganta la Olla»madewomennotfertil, theycouldn’t be pregnant. Theelveswere 40cm tallgreen and human-shaped. Ifsomeoneaccidentiallysawthem, theywould escape running in zig-zag.

  25. La Encorujá Thisevilwomantransformsinto light and stealsbabiesfromthircribs and makedthemappear in random places like in a pen or in houses

  26. Mermaids Thesemermaideslive in rivers. Theyaren’tbenevolentcreatures. Theysingcharmingsongstobringinnocentshepherds and thenlaterondrownthem.

  28. Jáncanas This horrible womanlived in caves in themountains. They can transformintowhatevertheylike(snakes, lovely ladies). Theykillshepherdswithsomegoldscissors.

  29. Jáncanu These are similar totheCyclops. Theywear animal skins, theyhavegot a big and full-of-furbody and onlyoneeye, buttheyhave a goodeyesight. They are evil and cannibals, theyalsolive in caves in themountains.

  30. Encontráu Thisis a diseasethatis quite terrofying. Forexample, ifyou look at an animal that has the «encontráu», youwill catch ittoo. You can heal the person with garments of a person named Mary or John, but only with the person of the opposite sex, while reciting a spell.

  31. Entiznáu This myth is about a 4-metre tall man that wears dark clothes, a big hat and his face is black. His powers consist on creating storms, thunder and rain. He is very irascible, especially when the shepherds refused his offerings. One of his enemies is “The Chancalaera”.

  32. Escornáu It’s a huge living being that has horse body, Boar front and a huge horn on his forehead. It attacked people and cattle and it finally died when a divine force stopped him in front of a banner of the Virgin. Its horn had healing powers and it was considered a relic.
