  1. 2012 SPIRENT FEDERALGPS TRAINING CONFERENCE Scenario Generation 4: Capturing Truth and Receiver Data for Post-Processing Workshop

  2. Examples • SimGEN Truth Data • Quick-Look • Bulk Logging • GPS Nav Data • NMEA • Data Streaming • Capturing Receiver Data • NMEA • Analyzing Data • SimPROCESS

  3. Quick-Look Data • Run any scenario • Select desired Quick-Look option • ‘Add’ any parameter desired • If logging, make sure logging is enabled • Select a dynamic parameter (Psuedorange Rate for example) Note: Must enable Logging On if data is to be logged DATA LOGGING DATA PLOT DATA DISPLAY

  4. Quick-Look Data (cont.) • Click ‘Add selected’ parameter to add them • Make sure selected parameter is available in the scenario, for instance satellite not currently being simulated won’t show any change • Observe the changes • Stop the scenario • Notes: • Logged Quick-Look data defaults to being saved in the scenario folder under post_proc.csv • May be run in Turbo Mode

  5. Bulk Logging • Select a scenario • Enable Bulk Logging by either method • Select Motion and Satellite data logging in ascii format • Run scenario (may be run in Turbo Mode) • Stop scenario • View logged files in scenario folder • motion_V1.csv • sat_data_V1A1.csv

  6. Navigation Data • Select a scenario • Enable ‘Dump navigation data’ from either method • Run scenario (may be run in Turbo Mode)

  7. Navigation Data (cont.) • Stop the scenario after at least 30 seconds • Start the GPS Nav Data Extract Utility • Select logged nav data file • Extract nav data (navtxt) • Optionally select desired SVs and subframes • ‘Run’ the utility and observe the results

  8. NMEA Truth Data • Select a scenario • Edit the NMEA output file to ‘Log to file’ • Select desired messages (only GGA is logged by default) and rates • Enable NMEA output file so it is used in the scenario

  9. NMEA Truth Data (cont.) • Run the scenario (this can be run in Turbo Mode) • Ignore serial port output warning, press ‘OK’ • Stop the scenario • Open and view logged NMEA truth data (nmea.txt) in scenario folder

  10. Data Streaming • Select a scenario • Edit the data streaming definition file • Select the following datagrams • Enable the Data streaming definition file Keep Loopback IP Address

  11. Data Streaming (cont.) • Open the Data Streaming Message Logger Utility

  12. Data Streaming (cont.) • Select the following messages • Start logging • Run the scenario (this MUST be performed in real-time) • After a few minutes, Stop logging and stop the scenario • View the logged files in the specified Directory

  13. Receiver NMEA Logging Data • Connect a GPS receiver to the front RF output • Connect the GPS receiver to the SimGEN PC COM or USB port • Configure the GPS receiver to output NMEA format data • Open a scenario within SimGEN • Specify the RS232 COM port settings applicable for the GPS receiver UUT • Enable NMEA Input • Specify COM port for the RS232 or USB input • Supports up to COM9 • Specify interface settings for baud rate, etc.

  14. Receiver NMEA Logging Data (cont.) • Enable NMEA logging within SimGEN • Edit NMEA logging file and select desired NMEA messages • Run the scenario • Verify NMEA messages being received

  15. Receiver NMEA Logging Data (cont.) • View the receiver position data and errors under Quick-Look • Stop the scenario

  16. SimPROCESS • Open the SimPROCESS Demo scenario ‘large data files’ located in the following location: • C:\Program Files\Spirent Communications\Positioning Application\Scenarios\SimPROCESS Demos\NMEA\large data files • Start SimPROCESS

  17. SimPROCESS (cont.) • Expand Session with ‘<‘ at the bottom right • Select RX NMEA GNS errors • Hit Run

  18. SimPROCESS (cont.) • Select logged receiver data example ‘nmea.txt’ • Select Bulk Logged vehicle truth data example ‘motion_v1.csv’ • Observe the results
