Step 1: Getting Started - Leading by Example • Green building standards for new and major renovations of municipal buildings • Miami Beach, FL requires all new municipal buildings to achieve LEED Silver certification and all existing municipal buildings to achieve LEED Silver certification for Existing Buildings • Clayton, MO requires all new construction and major renovations of city-owned, occupied, or funded buildings over 5,000 sq. ft. to earn LEED Silver Certification

Conducting a Successful Local Green Building Tour - Week of March 15th - • Form a planning committee • Create a local green buildings factsheet -- including number of green buildings, locations, and documented benefits ($, energy, CO2 saved) • Select location(s) for Tour and speakers/presenters • Fill volunteer roles • Invite the public to tour

Conducting a Successful Local Green Building Tour, ctd - Week of March 15th - • Set a goal for number of attendees • Prepare media advisory and news release • Prepare and submit an Op-ed about Tour • Plan for brief news conference at start of Tour (invite Mayor, etc…) • Report back to cool.cities@sierraclub.org on success of Tour (articles, internet, photos)
