  9. Perinatal statistics: parturients, deliveries and newborns 2012 • In 2012, there were 59 856 births in Finland, which was just under 1 per cent up on 2011. Births have increased by around 5 per cent over the last ten years. • The mean age of primiparas was 28.4 years in 2012. • In 2012, about one in five parturients were aged 35 and over. The highest proportions of parturients aged 35 and over were in the Åland Islands and the hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa. High maternal age is a key factor increasing risks associated with pregnancy and delivery. • Two per cent of all parturients were aged under 20 in 2012. The proportion of under-20s of all parturients has been decreasing since the late 1980s. • Just over 92% of all women with vaginal delivery used at least one method of pain relief. • http://www.thl.fi/statistics/perinatalstatistics, Statistical Report 24/2013
