READ: ISAIAH 31:1-3 THE FOLLY OF NOT TRUSTING GOD 1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the LORD! 2 Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster, And will not call back His words, But will arise against the house of evildoers, And against the help of those who work iniquity. 3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; And their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, Both he who helps will fall, And he who is helped will fall down; They all will perish together.

WHAT DID THE EGYPTIANS DO TO THE HEBREW CHILDREN? READ: EXODUS 14:5-13 5 It was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people. They said, “Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” 6 So He made ready his chariot and took his people with him. 7 Also he took six hundred choice chariots and all the chariots of Egypt with captains over every one of them. 8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt and he pursued the children of Israel. The children of Israel went out with boldness. 9 So The Egyptians pursued them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army. And they overtook them camping by the sea beside Pi Hahiroth, before Baal Zephon.

WHAT DID THE LORD DO TO PHAROAH’S ARMY? READ: EXODUS 14:5-13 10 And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes and Behold, the Egyptians marched after them. They were very afraid and the children of Israel cried out to the LORD. 11 They said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? 12 Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, Saying, Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptiansthan that we should die in the wilderness.” 13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. “ NKJV

For tomorrow about this time I will deliver all of them slain before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.” 7 So Joshua and all the people of war with him came against them suddenly by the waters of Merom and attacked them. 8 And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who defeated them and chased them to Greater Sidon, to the Brook Misrephoth, and to the Valley of Mizpah eastward; they attacked them until they left none of them remaining. 9 So Joshua did to them as the LORD had told him: He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire. They came up and encamped in Michmash, to the east of Beth Aven. 6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in danger (for the people were distressed), then the people hid in caves, in thickets, in rocks, in holes and in pits. 7 As for Saul, he was still in Gilgal and all the people followed him trembling. 8 Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. 9 Saul said, “Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me.” And he offered the burnt offering. 10 Now it happened, as soon as he had finished presenting the burnt offering, that Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him.
