  1. -Do now -Write down any questions or concerns about puberty you may have. If they get answered through class then your question or concern is answered if they do not feel free at the end of the class to ask

HORMONES • The endocrine system includes various organs that work together to regulate body functions. • Changes during puberty are caused by hormones. • Hormones are chemicals produced by your glands that regulate the activities of different body cells. • These hormones are sent through the body’s blood stream by the endocrine glands/system.

  3. Maintaining endocrine health -Endocrine health is related to overall health • Eat balanced, nutritious meals • Sleep 8 1/2- 9 hours daily • Engage in regular physical activity • Yearly, get a medical check up or physical

  4. WHAT’S GOING ON? • Hormones produced can trigger physical and emotional changes. • These changes can happen to an individual male or female at different rates between the ages of 10-15.

  5. Changes… Female Male Facial hair Voice deepens Broad shoulders Chest hair Underarm hair Pubic hair Sperm produced Ejaculation of semen • Underarm hair • Breasts develop • Waistline slims • Hips broaden • Pubic hair • Ovulation • Menstruation

  6. What is menstruation? • Menstruation- the shedding of the uterine lining • After a female matures the uterus prepares each month for a pregnancy, if that doesn’t happen the thickened lining of the uterus breaks down into blood, fluid, and tissue  Based on a 28 day cycle.
