  2. Our school, Helsingin Yhteislyseo (HYL) is located in east-Helsinki suburban. • Helsinki is the capital of Finland, population 559,046, total population in the Helsinki region 1,240,482. 

  3. Our school, Helsingin Yhteislyseo (HYL) is a private school with junior high school (grades 7 - 9) and a senior high school (grades 10 - 12). We have about 750 students and 60 teachers. In our junior high school we have a special math and art classes, as well art class in senior level. Pictures and videos in the web

  4. About the history of our school • Hyl was founded on 1908, what means, that our school is 97 years old! • At first it was a Secondary School with an emphasis on agriculture in downtown. • In present place we are since 1971. • HYL 1908-2005

  8. The purpose of this project • is to enhance inter cultural communication skills and to increase the tolerance between different cultures. The project is aimed to about 15 year-old students but older students may participate as well.

  9. PRECONCEPTIONS… • During the project groups of students will collect and write down their preconceptions about the other countries concerned, about their culture and people, according to themes given in advance (for example: national character, industries, religion, languages, national characteristics, famous people, youth cultures, music and so on). • All you have to do is send your preconceptions to us in word file… we will put them to the sky • Results will be published in the site in the end of November • After this,the students will compare and comment on their conceptions and centres of interests using e-mail. There will be also a real-time chat where youths comment and discuss on others preconceptions. During the December and January

  10. …..MEET REALITY • The second part is called An ordinary week in my country. Students will take photos, make short videos and write texts about the ordinary week of teenagers in their country (their schooldays, hobbies...). • This part should be send to us as readymade web-pages till the end of March • Results will be published in the site. • After this part will students compare and discuss about their ordinary week and hopefully get better idea of other countries and their identity. (rest of the school year)

  12. ICT-Projects in English • Comenius Migration project,1997-1999. • The participating schools were from Sweden, Finland and Belgium. The goal of the project was to create a website that consists of a database to study migration and also a forum where students and teachers of different nations can publish their works.
