  3. WEB Program: The mission of SMS WEB program is to assist our sixth graders in making a smooth transition from elementary school to middle school. This will begin with our parent meeting this evening. Then, our 5th grade students will visit the middle school May 13 for a brief talk. This will be followed by an orientation day on the first day of school for 6th graders and new students only Wednesday, August 21st.

  4. Basic Middle School 6th Grade Schedule 8-45 Minute periods of class per day Reading/Language Arts-2 periods Math- 1 period Social Studies-1 period Science-1 period Band or Chorus- 1 period PE/Computers Study hall

MONTCAS-CRT –NWEA Scores • Advanced, Proficient, Nearing Proficient, Novice- may be targeted for additional supports. • May require minimal or no elective class to provide additional academic supports • One Title tutor-Maria Jensen- Tutorial sessions • After-school study hall, after-school detention • Resource Room • Homework-… parents play a key role-wearing glasses, minimizing absences

Middle School Basics • 7:40-doors open-drop off instruments, pay lunch money, get make-up slips • 7:55 First Bell Rings (8:00) • Clothing needed for fitness..plain white or gray shirt and athletic shorts • Calendars, Grades, Lesson Plans online • Parent Email Reminders and Sidney Middle School Facebook page • Student Planners-Hallway passes • Middle School Activities-basketball, track, volleyball, wrestling, golf, Builder’s Club, cheerleading • Lunch Tickets • Make-up Slips • Tardies

  7. Closed Campus Lunch • 6th graders are required to eat in the lunch room. Students get salad bar and hot lunch items every day! (healthy and inexpensive) • Special occasions get off campus lunch privilege

  8. Current Cell Phone Policy SMS • Student possession and use of cellular phones, pagers and other electronic signaling devices on school grounds, at school-sponsored activities, and while under the supervision and control of school district employees, is a privilege which shall be permitted only under the circumstances described herein. • At no time shall any student operate a cell phone or other electronic device with video capabilities in a classroom, locker room, bathroom or other location where such operation may violate the privacy right of another person.

  9. Cell Phone Policy SMS • Cell phones or any type of wireless communication device are not to be used on school grounds during regular school hours. Unauthorized use of such devices disrupts the instructional program and distracts from the learning environment. Cell phones must be kept in student’s locker and TURNED OFF during the instructional day. Students utilizing these devices during that time (7:55-3:10) will have these devices confiscated by a teacher, teacher’s aide, administrator, or other school district employee. • Confiscated devices will be returned to the parent or guardian at the end of the school day. Unauthorized use of such devices will result in disciplinary action as outlined in the Progressive Discipline Policy.
