  4. PROBLEM • Motor NTS • Motor burnt and smell observed. • Motor tripped while running. • Smoke observed from MTB. • Flashover occurred in module • Power fuse blown. 70 such incidents in past 3 years from 2016-2018 making an average of around 23 incidents per year.

  6. Situation after tripping • Operation-parameters control,systemrevival, valve operation etc. • Maintenance-Accurate fault diagnosis , flashover, motor replacement and rewinding etc. • MTP person was also not in peace.

  7. REASON Only Protections available :- • Power Fuse • Thermal Overload Relay During Earth Fault /Single Phasing???........

  8. SOLUTION MOTOR PROTECTION RELAY PROCUREMENT:- • Inst. overcurrent protection • Thermal overload protection • Phase reversal • Current Unbalance • Earth Fault • Stall rotor • Locked Rotor • Phase loss protection.

  9. Drives Covered..... • Ash series pumps-Lower & upper deck • Fly ash water pumps • Cooling Tower fans • Seal air blower • Fire fighting pumps • Belt conveyors

  11. CHALLENGES DURING INSTALLATION • Very limited period shutdown. • Modifications in control circuit wiring and bus bar. • Relay testing and setting at lab • Ensuring utmost safety.

  13. THE COST ECONOMICS.... L&T switchgear spare procurement- Rs. 10 Lakhs. Cost of one ash handling motor-Rs. 6 Lakhs(approx) Cost of rewinding one motor- Rs 0.5 Lakhs(approx) P PO NO. 4100003176 Dt. 02.02.2018 Supply of Relay,Current transformer & Retrofitting charges – Rs. 7,87,500/-
