This guide provides students with essential information about Grade Point Averages (GPA) and academic honors. It discusses how GPA is calculated using letter grades and introduces the criteria for honors such as Dean's List, Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Summa Cum Laude at various educational levels including middle school, high school, and college. Understanding these concepts is crucial for academic success and eligibility for graduation. The GPA system can significantly impact class rank and honors recognition, so it's important for students to be well-informed.

The grade point average is a measure of the student's overall academic performance and is used in the determination of academic standing, rank in class, eligibility for graduation, program eligibility and honors. To compute grade point averages, grade points are assigned to letter grades as follows: to the grade "A," 4 points; to "B," 3 points; to "C," 2 points; to "D," 1 point, and to "F," "I," "S," "U," "NG," "Q," "W," 0 pointshttp://catalog.lamar.edu/general-academic-policies-2011-2012.html
