2019 SYBA Fall Baseball

Sign-ups are closed for the SYBA Fall Baseball League with a record number of kids registered this year. The league includes 124 kids, with 21 registrants from outside of Shakopee. Divided into three grade levels, the league aims to encourage playing multiple sports and avoid conflicts with football and soccer. Games will be played at Tahpah Park on Saturdays, starting from September 7th and ending on October 12th.

League overview Record number of kids registered this year • 124 kids • 21 registrants from outside of Shakopee • 1st-2nd Grade: 22 kids (2 teams) • 3rd-4th Grade: 71 kids (6 teams) • 5th-6th Grade: 31 kids (3 teams) Schedule • Double headers will be played on Saturdays between 2:00PM-6:00PM • Times scheduled to encourage playing multiple sports; avoid conflicts with football and soccer. • Games played at Tahpah Park • 1st-2nd Grade at Field 5 • 3rd-4th Grade on Fields 6&7 • 5th-6th Grade on Field 8 • Games begin on Saturday Sept 7 and end on Saturday Oct 12

  3. 1st-2nd Grade • Two teams; will play each other twice per week • Coach pitch; no umpires • Coin flip for home team • Play 10 per team in the field; everyone hits • Coaches can be on the field during the game providing instruction; coaches make calls on the field • Recommend having a coach backing up the catcher to speed up the game • Maximum 5 runs per inning or 3 outs • If player doesn’t hit after 4-5 strikes tell them “Nice try. You will get them next time.” • No advancing on passed balls or overthrows; no stealing • Runners must stop when ball gets into the infield • Focus on fundamentals and player development • If teams are unbalanced they can be mixed up to be more competitive • Have teams do a relay race after the second game. Kids really like doing this.

  4. 3rd-4th Grade • Six teams; each team plays two games per Saturday (12 games total) • Coin flip for home team • Kid pitch; umpires will be on the field. Umpires decisions are final. • No walks; after 4 balls or HBP a coach steps in to finish the batter. Batter retains strikes when coach pitches and strike out after 3 strikes. • If a pitcher walks three batters in an inning they must be replaced • Pitchers can pitch two innings max per week; give as many kids the chance to pitch as possible. • Play 10 per team in the field; everyone hits • Maximum 5 runs per inning or 3 outs • Players can advance one base on passed ball. Runner cannot score from 3rd on passed ball or wild pitch. • Stolen bases are allowed. Runner can leave base once ball crosses home plate. • Bunting is allowed • Recommend player on the bench practices pitching with a coach when team is on the field

  5. 5th-6th Grade • Three teams; each team plays two games per Saturday (12 games total) • Coin flip for home team • Kid pitch; umpires will be on the field. Umpires decisions are final. • Regular baseball rules apply; walks and HBP are allowed. • Coaches should not be on the field during an inning • If a pitcher walks three batters in an inning they must be replaced • Pitchers can pitch two innings max per week; give as many kids the chance to pitch as possible. • Play 9 per team in the field; everyone hits • Maximum 5 runs per inning or 3 outs • Players can advance on passed ball. Runner can score from 3rd on passed ball or wild pitch. • Stolen bases are allowed. Runner can leave base once ball crosses home plate. • Bunting is allowed • Recommend player on the bench practices pitching with a coach when team is on the field

  6. Uniforms • Jersey shirts will be provided to all players to keep • Kids should wear hats from their association if available. If not, any baseball hat is good to use. • Coaches shirts will be available. If you already have one, please wear it in lieu of a new shirt. • Players should provide the following for their use: • Baseball pants • Cleats • Helmet • Glove • Bat

  7. Additional information • Schedules and rosters available on SYBA website • Rosters and team e-mails will be sent to coaches. Please reach out to your teams. • Players should arrive early for first games to meet coaches, get jerseys, etc. • No standings will be kept during the year • Equipment pickup will be scheduled next week. Please have one coach from each team pick up bags and balls. • Coaches names will be provided to site administrator who will credit your account for being a coach ($50 for head coaches, $25 for assistant coaches) Focus for the season should be to have fun and work on fundamentals. Use the fall league as prep for next years season.
