WHY PHHS for Staple Crops? – PHHS Strategy • WHY PHHS for Staple Crops? • In response to food insecurity: Need for improving post harvest management and infrastructure so as to meet market demand identified as key constraints to staple crop value chain development in Rwanda. • PHHS Strategy: • 1. Facilitating market linkages: Ensuring producers, traders and other actors are linked to markets and have skills and infrastructure needed to take advantage of market timing and choice, thereby maximizing returns.

Strengthening underlying resources for Post Harvest (PH) management: Training on improved conditioning and storage techniques, Provision of adequate and appropriate conditioning and primary storage infrastructure, Appropriate technology equipment (threshing, winnowing) Disseminating new techniques and technologies and addressing harvest and PH handling and quality issues that affect losses prior to and during storage,
