  2. Critters: Wet and Dry • http://nationalzoo.si.edu/ • Best site ever! Information on animals, research and conservation. The kids will love the webcams and videos. • http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/ • Webcam of penguins is the best. A lot of information on sea creatures, ocean research. • http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/animals-and-experiences • Goes straight to the Animals and Experiences page at The Monterey Bay Aquarium. • http://www.wvdnr.gov/Wildlife/wdpintro.shtm • Official site WV Virginia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife. Some kids activities on Kids Zone page.

Critters 2: More Good Sites • http://www.nwf.org/Kids/Ranger-Rick.aspx • The Kids’ section of the National Wildlife Federation, this site has a lot on good information on North American wild life and conservation. • http://www.nwf.org/ • Great photographs of wildlife and features on conservation. • http://web4.audubon.org/educate/kids/ • Kids page of the National Audubon Society. Games, quizzes, pictures and webcams about North American birds.

  4. On Shaky Ground: Earthquakes, etc. • http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/kids/ • The Kids page of the U.S. Geological Survey. It has news, games, recent earthquake information and more • http://www.usgs.gov/state/state.asp?State=WV • The West Virginia page for the USGS, not really for kids, but older students might find it interesting and useful. • http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/ • USGS site in volcano activity in the United States, interesting features and information.

Has information about volcanos all over the world, including current eruptions, satellite images, a glossary of volcano terms and more. • http://volcano.oregonstate.edu/kids • The kids page at Volcano world. • http://geologydegree.org/sites-that-rock/ • Lists 105 Geology websites “that rock!”

  6. That’s Deep! • http://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/welcome.html • National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration’s Ocean explore site. Contains information on their expeditions and programs. Great images of sea life and ship wrecks. • http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/education.html • The education site with information for teacher and students and a great games portal. • http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/education • The education site from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Games and Activities pages is good.

Information on space and the Space Program, a page for educators, a link to NASA TV which has presentations and news conferences, a link to the Space Station’s view of Earth! • http://www.nasa.gov/audience/forkids/kidsclub/flash/index.html • The Kids’ page on the NASA site. Information and games for different ages, information for parents and educators. • http://stardate.org/ • Website for the radio show, has past broadcasts, features on Astronomy, lesson plans, activities and tips on star gazing.

Another Small Step • http://howthingsfly.si.edu/ • From the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, a great site that explains all things airborne. • http://earthsky.org/ • Site for the radio program, features information on all types of science including astronomy, geology, nanotechnology, dinosaurs and more.

General Science • http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids/ • National Geographic, enough said! • http://kids.discovery.com/home • Great site for all kinds of Science, for pet parasite mentioned in Chapter 3, click games, scroll down to Just for Fun and click More Just for Fun. • http://www.acs.org/kids • American Chemical Society’s kids pages has great games and activities about Chemistry and Physics for all your budding Dr. Sheldon Coopers. • http://www.billnye.com/for-kids-teachers/ • We all love Bill Nye the Science Guy, For Simple machines mentioned in Chapter 3, go to Episode guides and click on title under Physics.

For the Mentos and Diet Coke video, mentioned in Chapter 4 click on the LAB – Experiments and look in most viewed experiments • http://science.energy.gov/ • The site for the Us Department of Energy, Not really for Kids, both has good information on all aspects of energy science. • http://invention.smithsonian.org/centerpieces/sparklab/spark-experiments.html • Site for the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation at the Smithsonian Museum of American History. Contains experiments and activities for number of grade level s and information about Inventors and their inventions

Has lots of information and activities on pollution, recycling, and other environmental concerns. • http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/reachout/kidspage.shtml • The National Weather Services’ site for kids all about atmospheric and weather science. The National Weather Service is a part of NOAA. • http://www.climate.gov/teaching • More for teachers, this site contains “Reviewed resources for teaching about climate and energy”
