Celebrating Flag Day: A Tribute to Our National Flag

On June 14, 1885, teacher Don Fisher Cigrand in Wisconsin celebrated the birth of the American flag. His passion for the flag led him to write numerous letters advocating for a dedicated Flag Day. In 1916, President Wilson officially proclaimed Flag Day, and in 1949, President Truman signed the law establishing June 14th as a national holiday. Join in the Flag Day celebrations and honor the symbol of our nation. For a deeper understanding of the history of the flag, explore the PowerPoint available at http://USCitizenshipTeachers.org.
