  1. Close Analysis of Slumdog Millionaire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIzbwV7on6Q

  2. The trailer of Slumdog Millionaire includes many structural conventions. Examples of these are the numerous quotes titles at the beginning and extreme close ups of main characters. Another typical convention of Slumdog Millionaires' trailer is the change of the pace and style of music used as the action progresses. As the trailer builds up to reveal flashbacks and history, it also reveals scenes of great emotion for the main character.

  3. The trailer of Slumdog Millionaire easily represents that the genre of the films is social realism. The unique selling point of Slumdog Millionaire is the use of emotive flashbacks throughout and that the genre appeals to a range of audiences. It is clear from the trailer that the film has a young target audience, of mainly 16-30 year olds. The voiceover is also very typical of the films genre. Most of the voiceover is the voice of the interviewer of the game show and Jamal (the main character) explaining his answers.

  4. The voiceover of the trailer includes Jamal confessing his love to his childhood sweetheart during his time on the game show. Extra emphasis is made on this news by the change of music (tempo and pace increase). This also give audiences more information about Jamal’s background. This could be a clear indication to audiences of the social group and classes involved in this film.

  5. The written text on screen is a white font of a black with the occasional coloured streak background. It includes credits and the release date of the film. The name of the film is shown, typically, at the end of the trailer. Other credits and quotes are, however, placed at the beginning of the trailer. This is unconventional of the genre as often all credits and titles are at the end of the trailer. There is also text at the beginning of the trailer which explains Jamal’s situation. The spoken language throughout is very intimidating towards the ‘slumdog’ Jamal, however all the language used by him is very emotive and dramatic.
