  2. Knowing Your Students This first slide deck introduces: • Learning for All K – 12 and its link to Education for All K – 6; • The theme “Knowing Your Students’ • Provides a workshop framework to begin to unpack the theme ‘Knowing Your Students’

  3. Learning for All K – 12 • Special Education Policy and Programs Branch is leading the development of a K – 12 resource guide as a follow-up to Education for All K – 6 • The working title of the document is Learning forAll K – 12/L’apprentissage pour tous: de la maternelle à la 12e année

Learning for All K – 12Our Shared Beliefs Through province wide consultations with parents, educators and educational stakeholders in spring 2008, the guiding principles of Education for All K – 6 were confirmed as essential to any effort to improve the achievement of all students and to close the achievement gap

  5. Learning for All K – 12 The two key tenets of Learning for All K – 12 are: • Personalization • Precision

Learning for All K -12 Sources for knowing your students: • The Ontario Student Record (OSR) • Consultations with previous teachers • Consultations with parents and/or students • Interest inventories • Classroom observation • Assessments (e.g., diagnostic, pre-tests, conferencing, student portfolio, etc.)

  12. Learning for All K – 12 Personalization starts with: • Knowing your students • Knowing where they are at in their learning • Knowing where they need to go in their learning • Knowing how to get them to where they need to go in their learning

  13. Learning for All K - 12 • Reflect upon your current teaching assignment • Develop a plan, individually and collectively, about how you can know your students better in order to improve your connections with students and effect positive change in their learning
