  2. The iPAQ

  3. Microsoft ActiveSync • Keep Pocket Outlook data up-to-date • Synchronize Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel documents between your iPAQ and computer. • Back up and restore your iPAQ data. • Copy (rather than synchronize) files between your iPAQ and computer.

  4. Cradle and AC Adapter Your iPAQ comes with either a cradle or auto-sync cable, and an AC adapter. This allows you to recharge your iPAQ, as well as synchronize the information between your iPAQ and a computer using ActiveSync.

  5. Cradle and AC Adapter The cradle or auto-sync cable must be plugged into an appropriate port on the back of your computer. Example, you must plug the serial cradle into a serial port and a USB cradle into a USB port.

  6. EXPANSION PACK SYSTEM Allows you to personalize the appearance of your iPAQ or add extra functionality. iPAQ Style Packs offer a range of styles to customize your iPAQ, while Expansion Packs, such as the Compact-Flash Card, or PC Card Expansion Pack, let you add extra features.

  7. Recharging the Battery The iPAQ contains a rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery that is recharged each time you place it in the cradle. WARNING! Do not let the battery run completely down. You will lose all your information and programs.

  8. POWER BUTTON Starts the iPAQ. Press and release the button to turn on or off your iPAQ. Press and hold the button for one second to toggle on or off the backlight.

  9. APPLICATION BUTTONS Allow quick access to four applications. By default, the applications are Calendar, Contacts, QMenu, and QStart. You can change the functions of the application buttons to open different applications.

  10. Infrared Port Enables you to exchange data with other Windows-powered devices. The infrared port can transmit at speeds up to 115.2Kb per second. With Pocket PC 2002, you can also exchange data with Palm OS equipped PDAs.

  11. Speaker and iPAQ Navigator/Action Button • Sounds alarms and plays back sound recordings. • Allows you to scroll through a list (similar to pressing the arrow keys on a keyboard). Can also be used as game buttons within a game application. • The center of the button can be used as an action button to open a selected item.

  12. RECORDING FEATURE • Activates the record function in Notes. • Allows you to record voice messages. • These use a lot of memory so keep them short.

  13. STYLUS Allows you to tap or write on the screen. Push the stylus release button to release it from the compartment.
