In this document, Gabor Bajko from Nokia proposes a name change for GAS (Generic Advertisement Service) to enhance clarity and accuracy. The suggested change from "Advertisement" to "Query" aligns with the function of GAS, which is an encapsulation mechanism that supports native queries but does not fulfill the standard advertising role. Bajko argues that calling it a "service" is misleading since GAS functions as a mechanism. The proposal emphasizes the need for precise terminology to facilitate better understanding of GAS's interworking capabilities.

Name change for GAS Authors: Date: 2008-03-15 Gabor Bajko, Nokia
GAS in draft 2.0 • Generic • Advertisement • Service • ‘GAS’ is an encapsulation mechanism which is NOT: • Generic (it only supports a Native Query, MIIH, maybe CAP?) • Advertisement (does not advertises anything). The only thing which is advertised is the interworking capability • Service (service=“the work performed by one that serves” ) Gabor Bajko, Nokia
Name change suggestion for GAS • Instead of using the misleading name of ‘Advertisement’, use ‘Query’ to reflect exactly what it is • Instead of saying it is a ‘service’, say what it actually is: a mechanism. Mechanisms or protocols are used to access services (like eg MIIS) • Avoid using the name ‘generic’. Or modify the mechanism to become generic and keep the word in its name. Gabor Bajko, Nokia
