  1. How to Improve the Cut Quality of CNC Plasma Systems? How to Improve the Cut Quality of CNC Plasma Systems? The role of a CNC plasma cutting system in improving productivity and cutting waste at any production facility is beyond doubt. The problem can, however, crop up in achieving consistency in the quality of cuts. This is due to the presence of a slew of factors that can affect the cutting process such as machine types (XY table & punch press), the cutting system (torch, consumables, and power), and other variables such as operator’s expertise, material composition, flow rate or quality of gas. Cut issues to handle There can be a number of issues capable of blighting the quality of a CNC plasma system. These can be described on the basis of angles, surface finish, and colour. Angles  The cutting process does not achieve any uniformity. It either removes more material from the top or vice versa  Makes round edges at the top of the cutting surface

  2.  Deposits linear or globular shaped molten material at the bottom surface  Deposition of molten material in light patches (dross) at the top of a cut material Surface finishing The type of material has a bearing on the quality of surface finish. Hence, some materials will end up with more roughness (less smooth surface finish) than others post the cutting process. For example, Aluminium and steel will have different surface finish texture due to their material composition. Colour After completion of the cutting process, the material colour can undergo a change. This happens due to a chemical reaction between the plasma and the material. The issue is more pronounced in alloys than in metals due to the variable composition of materials in the former. Steps to improve the quality of cut- Proper direction of plasma arc cutting: Since the plasma arc travels in a clockwise direction through standard consumables, the materials should be kept at right angles vis-a-vis the movement of the torch to get better quality cuts. Select correct procedure for materials to be cut: The user manual should be read before choosing the correct procedure for materials to be cut. The process should be chosen depending on the following criteria.  Type, thickness and cut quality of materials  Type of plasma and consumable used Correct type and quality of consumables: The need to select the correct type of consumables like nozzles, orifices etc is important. This would mean procuring quality consumables from reputed stores that provide CNC sales service and support in Australasia or elsewhere. Follow the below mentioned steps when it is about dealing with consumables.  Regularly examine the consumables for any wear and tear  Replace nozzle and electrode together  O rings should not be dabbed with too much oil (read over lubrication) Set correct cutting speed: As the volume of dross formation depends on the cutting speed (among other things), it should be adjusted likewise. However, it can’t be fully eliminated for there are other factors that influence its formation such as the chemistry of material & plasma arc, and surface finish. Torch vibration: Ensure the torch is secured to the table gantry, and in case of any issue, it is better to contact the CNC sales, service and support around the world, be it in Australasia or elsewhere. Gas delivery: Ensure the gas delivery mechanism to the CNC plasma system functions properly by using proper sized gas regulators and lines. Conclusion The successful functioning of a CNC plasma cutting system depends on a number of factors. If these factors are taken care of the quality of cutting can be drastically improved resulting in obtaining a better quality of end products and thereby revenue.
