Merkmal Gymnasium Interlaken, GF Bio Sekunda Here comes your footer  Page 3

  4. ClassicalGenetics: Mendelianinheritance Law of Segregation & Law of Independent Assortment • Parental generation homozygous • Trait determined by one single gene (monogeny, as opposed to polygeny) • a recessive, A dominant Laws: • Dominant and recessive phenotypes: Filial generation F1 heterozygous, phenotype uniform according to dominant gene/trait Gymnasium Interlaken, GF Bio Sekunda Here comes your footer  Page 4

Gymnasium Interlaken, GF Bio Sekunda Here comes your footer  Page 9

  10. ClassicalGenetics: Mendelianinheritance Independent Assortment: Dihybrid cross • Parental generation: heterozygous, 2 loci • 2 traits, determined/encoded by 1 gene each • S/s: short, B/b: brown Regeln: • Dominant and recessive phenotypes: Traits/genes are inherited separately, i.e. independently. Ratio: 9:3:3:1 Correct deductions/predictions confirm the hypothesis  theory Exception: Genes on the same chromosome, whose loci lie close together; crossing-over (meiosis) does not separate them very often! 11. Gymnasium Interlaken, GF Bio Sekunda Here comes your footer  Page 11

  12. MolecularGenetics: Central questions • Molecular basis for inheritance: DNA What does the genotype of an organism consist of on the molecular level? What is a “gene”? How can it be defined in molecular terms? • From genes to traits: gene expression / protein biosynthesis How does the genotype determine the phenotype, i.e. the physical appearance or the traits of an organism? How do genes code for particular traits? Gymnasium Interlaken, GF Bio Sekunda Here comes your footer  Page 12
