What is an e-Portfolio? “E-Portfolios provide a stronger assessment of 21st Century learning and carry the potential to transform higher education” -Trent Batson, Executive Director- The Association for Authentic, Experiential, and Evidence-Based Learning (AAEBL) • A student centered & controlled online platform that promotes collection, selection and reflection about academic, extra-curricular and professional experiences & artifacts. • An “academic passport,” that provides educators and potential employers a glimpse of a student’s educational and professional journey. • A method for retaining ties to our graduates.
How Does This Work? Students: • Personalize their eportfolio • Access University based multimedia and file storage • Present artifacts from specific course assignments that document learning outcomes as well as growth: • display papers, • presentations, • resumes, • videos, • blogs and more. Instructors: • Encourage development & presentation of eportfolios (or any digital portfolio) • Link course materials to eportfolio assignments • Encourage reflection and tracking of growth & development
Why Should we Promote ePortfolios? 90% of employers surveyed said they would look at a student’s ePortfolio if made available “E-Portfolios portend the future, because they are a way for students to own their own learning and to carry around evidence of their experiences in all fields of study” -Trent Batson, Executive Director- The Association for Authentic, Experiential, and Evidence-Based Learning (AAEBL)
Department of Public Administration Usage Growth: MPA Program
How 2 faculty members are using ePortfolio in the Pace MPA Program • Course: PAA 601; PAA 602; PAA 650; PAA 665, PAA 695 • Level: Graduate • Purpose: To integrate course materials, reflection, current events, and employment to create a professional digital presence that seamlessly links education and career. • Students build upon their eportfolio & post reflective blogs and administrative journals • Peer feedback on reflective posts engages the students outside of the classroom and builds community • MPASA- The student association has a group on eportfolio • Acessible Archiving- Capstone abstracts are available and help students learn from research conducted by previous students • Study Group- Available across the program, regardless of the course in which a student is enrolled In the Classroom In the Program
