  1. Artificial Intelligence and The Singularity Michael Fine

  2. What is Intelligence? • Complex to define. Why? • What do we know as being intelligent? • Computational Procedures. • General Characteristics of the human of thinking. • Autonomy • Perception • Reasoning • Cognitive Dissonance – Theory? • Attitudes • Beliefs • Awareness of ideas • Our Conscience • Internal feelings

  3. What is Artificial Intelligence? Artificial Intelligence is a gateway towards science and engineering of making intelligent machines or smart computer programs. Enables machines to understand the human intelligence. Science of making a computer or machine perform a task that requires human knowledge. AI has the potential of surpassing the human intellect.

  4. Singularity Is a theory that of accelerating change, a future point in which progress throughout history humanity may suggest faster and more define changes in the future. Technological Singularity Describes a theory that there is a future point technology that takes place during a period of accelerating change sometime after the creation of a super-intelligence. An increase in the rate of technological progress throughout history, which may suggest faster and more profound change in the future.

  5. Accelerating Change Progress throughout history, can suggest faster and more profound change in the future. Accelerating Change will increase the rate: Technological Social Cultural Accelerating change, possesses its own popularity during modern times and is closely associated with the ideas and writings of many theorist focusing on Technological Singularity.

  6. Super-intelligence Artificially enhanced human brain, a computer program or a device that is much smarter, more creative and wiser than any current or past existing human brain. The uniqueness continues to enhance its own capability and intelligence. Singularity. Accelerating Change. Complimenting the concept accelerating change is the super intelligence. If it wasn’t for the theory of the super intelligence, accelerating change would not happen.

  7. Artificial Intelligence Machines and Software • Kernel Machines • Mathematical programming and process prediction. • Machine Learning in Games • computers can learn to get better at playing games. • Using heuristic search algorithms, neural networks, genetic algorithms, temporal and differences. • Symantec Intelligence Updater • Smart Network Routers • For early detection of packet-loss, uses the following to fight against packet-loss: • Explicit congestion notification • Active queue-management techniques. • Diagnostic Devices for your car, computer, 3G phone. • Robotics • Roomba • Medical • Laser Cutting

  8. Advantages • The ability to perform extended tasks at greater serial speeds than conscious human thought. • 200 calculations per second • Capacity • 24/7/365 • The human brain does not physically integrate well, externally or internally, with contemporary hardware and software. • Singularity • Accelerated Change • Super-Intelligence

  9. Disadvantages • We loose… • The ability to analyze and modify every design level and feature. • The ability to communicate and share information • Example: abilities, concepts, memories, thoughts. • The ability to control what is and what is not learned or remembered. • The ability to create new programming, hand-ons, design. • The ability to learn new information rapidly. • Makes us… • Lazy • Outsource Worthy
