    6. Special Session There will be a special session of AoD this year held on a Saturday in January. Please plan to attend!! This session will be led by Healer’s Art faculty as well as Drs. Shapiro and Robitshek. Healer’s Art is an experience developed by Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D., to teach physician self-awareness and humanistic ideals.

    7. Grading Honors/Pass/Fail Criteria 1. ATTENDANCE 80 POINTS = 16 regular sessions @ 5 points per session It is MANDATORY that you attend at least 10 sessions to pass the course 2. WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS – MANDATORY 15 POINTS = 3 essays @ 5 points per essay 3. PERSONAL PROJECT – MANDATORY 15 POINTS [includes class presentation] Extra credit Outside activity - Attendance (including a paragraph write-up) at an event contributing to student growth = 5 POINTS prior approval of instructor required Participation in Healer’s Art session = 10 POINTS (Date TBA) Honor = 99-110 POINTS Pass = 80-98 POINTS *No credit will be given until your course evaluation is received*

    8. 3 Mandatory Written Assignments Written assignments to enable students to learn more about compassionate, empathic care through self-awareness and observations of peers, supervising residents, attendings, patients and family members Short: 1-2 paragraphs Please note: All written assignments must be submitted by email to both instructors (see schedule).

    9. Personal Project Personal project (either N=1 self-change; or humanities/arts-based) designed to improve caring attitudes, humane reflection and behaviors in the clinical setting Examples include but are not limited to: Powerpoint presentations about personal reflection/growth; reflective poetry, art or music; self-change topical research with acquired data Presentation is expected to be no more than 5 minutes with a time of open discussion for up to an additional 5 minutes It is required that students turn in/e-mail a preliminary project description consisting of a paragraph describing your project and why you have chosen the mode and content of the project (submission expected 2-3 weeks prior to date)
