Definitions • Art of Team Building • NP suggestion to engage all members • Is it an Art or Science ? • Art : human creative skill or its application • Science : • An organised body of knowledge on a subject • Skilful technique rather than strength or natural ability • Art = Natural Skills; Science = Technical Skills Andy Sam : The Art of Team Building

Why do we need a Team ? • To get work done; achieve an objective • Where the work is too much for one person • Where the work is constrained by resources; time, people, money especially • To secure buy in or support ‘cos of future impact on stakeholders • Other : creating esprit de corps, facilitate communication, Andy Sam : The Art of Team Building

How do we build a Team ? • Analyse the Work Parameters • Objective : What needs doing; • Constraints : When; Where; Who; How • Resource Analysis (Budgets) • Time; Costs; People; Materials; Facilities; etc • Skills Audit; Legal Imperatives; Other (Spiritual); • Team Dynamics • People & Processes & Systems • Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) to cover (Plan, Do, Report, Review, Feedback) Andy Sam : The Art of Team Building

Legacies are not left by Accident • How do you want to be remembered • Judged by History or Live Your Eulogy (Covey) • Be strategic and intentional (Jn 15:9-17; Lk 14: 26-29) • Preparing The Way • Decide ahead what you are willing to give up • Take initiative to start the process; Fight for it • Know your goals with each person • Prepare to pass the baton well Andy Sam : The Art of Team Building

Leaders deposit their legacy in people • Mk 3:13-14 “called, appt 12 apostles, with Him..to send out to preach” • To change the world forever what will you do? • Build library, business, university??? • Jesus did this task w/o writing books, schools • Men were his Method (make u fishers of men) • Lasting success calls for successors • Converts → Followers → ADD • Disciples → Leaders → MULTIPLY Andy Sam : The Art of Team Building

Leader’s Legacy : toughest job, deepest joy • John 14:12 “faith in me ..do greater things” • Many things need to go right to create legacy • Finding the right leaders • Skills audit ?; competencies (spiritual & secular) ?? • Providing an effective development process • Instruction; Demonstration; Experience; Assessment • Needs buy-in of the people • Satisfy some need in them to make them effective • Needs the favor of God • Sine qua non (indispensable qualification) • Need to let go and let happen Andy Sam : The Art of Team Building
