  1. HOW TO BECOME A TEACHER IN IDAHO

  2. You can easily earn your Teaching Certification In Idaho through the online program from American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) PREREQUISITES a. Hold a Bachelor’s degree or be within 6 months of receiving your Bachelor’s degree. b. Your degree does not need to be in the subject you wish to teach. c. Once enrolled you will need to send the American Board your college or university transcripts.  d. Authorize the American Board to run a standard background check.

  3. CERTIFICATIONS OFFERED IN IDAHO American Board offers certification in the State of Idaho for the following subjects: Biology (6-12) Chemistry (6-12) Elem. Ed. (K-8) English (6-12) Science (6-12) History (6-12) Math (6-12) Physics (6-12) Reading (K-6) SPED (K-12)

  4. HOW IT WORKS 1. Pass American Board’s pedagogy and subject area exams. 2. Obtain a full-time teaching position at an Idaho school. 3. Apply to the Idaho Department of Education for state-issued interim teaching licensure (valid for 3 years). 4. Complete Clinical experience. 5. Within 3 years, complete two years of a mentorship program (free of cost). 6. After completion of all above requirements, a candidate can apply to the Idaho State Department of Education to upgrade the interim teaching certification into a state- issued Idaho teaching certificate (renewable every 5 years) and Become A Teacher.

  5. NEW IN IDAHO: THE CLINICAL EXPERIENCE A Clinical Experience is a 1-year program to evaluate and monitor new teachers on their teaching skills in the classroom.  In order to become a certified teacher on or after September 1, 2017 one must complete a clinical experience, after passing American Board’s PTK and subject area exam.
