The Spanish National Climate ChangeAdaptation Plan (2006) GENERAL FRAMEWORK FOR ALL ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE ASSESSMENT OF I+V+A TO CLIMATE CHANGE • Integration of adaptation to climate change into the planning strategy of the different socioeconomic sectors and ecological systems in Spain (mainstreaming) • To establish a continuous and accumulative process of knowledge generation and strengthening of capacities • To assist all those administrations and organizations interested – private and public – in evaluating the impacts of climate change in their area of interest, facilitating data, knowledge, tools and methods • To promote participation processes focus on the definition of the better options for adapting to climate change

PNACC: First Programme of Work (2006-9) • Four initial lines of activity: • Generation of regional climate scenarios (coordination of AEMet) • Water Resources (under coordination of DGA) • Biodiversity (under coordination of OAPN, DGMNPF and OECC) • Coastal areas (under coordination of DGC and OECC) Other additional lines of activity: • Strengthen the climate change adaptation governance in Spain • Promote activities of R&D&i in the field of I+V+A • Cooperation with key stakeholders • Mainstreaming I+V+A into SEA in sectors such as infrastructure, water resources, drought planning, rural development…

PNACC: Second Programme of Work (2009-2012) FOUR AXIS Axis I – Sectoral Impact, Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment REGIONAL CLIMATE CHANGE SCENARIOS + WATER, COASTAL AREAS, BIODIVERSITY, HEALTH, TOURISM, AGRICULTURE, FOREST, SOILS AND DESERTIFICATION, OTHERS (Energy, Infrastructure…) Axis III - Movilización of key stakeholders in sectors included in the PNACC Axis II – Integration of climate change adaptation into the sectoral regulatory Axis IV – System of impacts and adaptation indicators in Spain TWO PILLARS Coordination among national and regional climate change adaptation strategies To foster R&D&i related with I+V+A
