Lucas 2:41 - 52

1. Lucas2:41 - 52 41 Los padres de Jesús solían ir cada año a Jerusalén para las festividades de la Pascua. 42 Cuando el niño cumplió doce años, fueron a la fiesta, según la costumbre. 43 Pasados aquellos días, se volvieron, pero el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén, sin que sus padres lo supieran.

2. 44 Creyendo que iba en la caravana, hicieron un día de camino: entonces lo buscaron, 45 y al no encontrarlo, regresaron a Jerusalén en su busca. 46 Al tercer día lo encontraron en el templo, sentado en medio de los doctores, escuchándolos y haciéndoles preguntas.

3. 47 Todos los que lo oían se admiraban de su inteligencia y de sus respuestas. 48 Al verlo, sus padres se quedaron atónitos y su madre le dijo: “Hijo mío, ¿por qué te has portado así con nosotros? Tu padre y yo te hemos estado buscando llenos de angustia”. 49 Él les respondió: “¿Por qué me andaban buscando? ¿No sabían que debo ocuparme en las cosas de mi Padre?”

4. 50 Ellos no entendieron la respuesta que les dio. 51 Entonces volvió con ellos a Nazaret y siguió sujeto a su autoridad. Su madre conservaba en su corazón todas aquellas cosas. 52 Jesús iba creciendo en saber, en estatura y en el favor de Dios y de los hombres.

Luke2:41 - 52 41 Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, 42 and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. 43 After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it.

8. 44 Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, 45 but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions,

9. 47 and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.” 49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?”

10. 50 But they did not understand what he said to them. 51 He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and favor before God and man.

13. Reflections on Luke 2:41 - 52 Reflexiones en Lucas 2:41 - 52 by Fr. Sam Rosales, S.J. Dec. 30, 2012 Today is the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. The readings selected speak about the Bible’s ideals of a family. The words of the Book of Sirach and St. Paul’s words in Colossians still apply today. Every day we are reminded in the news that families are suffering from all kinds of problems.

14. Hoy es la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia de Jesús, Maria, y José. Las lecturas seleccionadas hablan de los ideales bíblicos acerca de la familia. Las palabras del Libro de Siracides y las palabras de San Pablo en la Carta a los Colosenses todavía aplican hoy. 15. Infidelity, anger, abuse, and even murder are occurring. More than half the marriages end up in divorce. And more than a third of the babies born come to unwed mothers. Abortion and pornography are also weakening the family.

16. Hay infidelidad, hay corajes, hay abuso, y hay asesinatos. Mas de la mitad de los que se casan llegan a ser divorciados. Y más de la tercera parte de las criaturas nacen a madres solteras. El aborto y la pornografía también están debilitando a la familia.

17. I like to remind children of the Fourth Commandment which says: “Honor your Father and your Mother.” The Lord promises a long life to those who do so. The Book of Sirach reminds us that God sets a father over his children. He must always be respected, even in his old age. He in turn confirms the mother’s authority over her children.

19. St. Paul in the Letter to the Colossians (3:14) says that above all things put on love. That is the bond of perfection. If we love one another we will have holiness, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. We will also bear with one another and forgive one another. Then there will be peace in the family.

20. San Pablo en la Epístola a Los Colosenses (3:14) nos dice que sobre todo hay que ponerse el amor. Este es el cinturón perfecto. Si nos amamos unos a los otros tendremos santidad, compasión tierna, bondad, humildad, mansedumbre y paciencia. También vamos a tolerarnos unos a los otros y perdonarse unos a los otros. Entonces habrá paz en la familia.

21. Also notice that St. Paul wants us to admonish one another. Tough honest love sometimes means we have to tell the inconvenient truth to one another. When he says we should sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude, it reminds me of prayer meetings. But this can also happen at liturgical worship and at home.

22. Hay que notar que San Pablo quiere que nos aconséjenos y nos enséñenos unos a los otros. El amor honestamente expresado a veces puede ser inconveniente. También hay que cantar salmos, himnos, y cánticos espirituales con gratitud. Esto me recuerda de juntas de oración. Pero también puede suceder en el culto litúrgico y en el hogar.

23. In the Magnificat Missalette for December 2009, I found a few passages from Pope Benedict XVI. He says: “The family is the privileged setting where every person learns to give and receive love. The family is an intermediate institution between individuals and society, and nothing can completely take its place.

25. The family is a necessary good for people, an indispensable foundation for society, and a great and lifelong treasure for couples. It is good for children, who are meant to be the fruit of love, of the total and generous self-giving of their parents. The family is also a school which enables men and women to grow to the full measure of humanity.”

26. La familia es un bien necesario para los pueblos, y es una fundación indispensable para la sociedad, y es un gran tesoro para toda la vida de parejas. 27. In the Gospel we see a very interesting narrative about the Holy Family. Note that in Jewish society of the days of Christ a boy entered adulthood at the age of twelve. Every adult male within 15 miles of Jerusalem was expected by the law to attend Passover at the Temple. So Jesus must have been pretty excited about his first time at Passover.

28. En el Evangelio vemos algo muy interesante en la historia de la Sagrada Familia. Noten que en la sociedad Judea de los días de Cristo un muchacho llegaba a ser adulto a la edad de doce anos. Todo varón adulto dentro de quince millas de Jerusalén por la ley tenía que atender la Pascua en el Templo. De manera que Jesús ha de haber estado muy excitado de estar por primera vez en la Pascua.

29. We also know that villages arranged caravans to travel together. The women started earlier and traveled slowly. The men came later and caught up with them, at the evening encampment. Jesus could have been with either Joseph or Our Lady. When they left Jerusalem, either one could have thought Jesus was with the other. So what a surprise it was at the end of the day when they found out he was not with either one of them!

30. También se sabe que las aldeas viajaban en caravana juntos. Las mujeres comenzaban temprano y caminaban despacio. Los hombres venían después y las alcanzaban en el campamento al fin del día. Jesús podría haber estado con San José o con la Virgen, uno o el otro. Cuando salieron de Jerusalén, uno o el otro ha de haber pensado que Jesús iba con el otro. 31. They returned to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. His parents were astonished. They did not comprehend why Jesus was doing this. Our Lady let the child Jesus know this. Notice that she called Joseph “your father.” When Jesus answers he says: “Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” This indicates Jesus had begun to have an illumination into his special relationship with God as his Father.

32. Regresaron a Jerusalén para buscarlo. Después de tres días lo encontraron en el Templo, sentado entre los maestros, escuchándolos y preguntándoles preguntas. Sus padres estaban atónitos. Ellos no comprendían porque Jesús había hecho esto. Nuestra Señora le deja saber esto a Jesús. 33. Nonetheless, Jesus returns to Nazareth with Our Lady and good St. Joseph, and was obedient to them. He was not full of pride. He was gentle and humble of heart. It was not the right time for him to go public. His hour had not yet come. In the meantime, Our Lady and St. Joseph pondered all of these things in their hearts.

34. Sin embargo, Jesús regresa a Nazaret con Nuestra Señora y buen Señor San José, y es obediente a ellos. No se lleno de orgullo. Era manso y humilde de corazón. No era su hora. 35. Let us pray for good and holy families in our Church and in our society. It is beautiful to see good and happy families that still pray together, and love one another. As Father Peyton said: “Families that pray together stay together!”
