What could he do? • Look at the cards that I will give out. • In groups of 4, put them into piles For and Against cutting the rope. • What do you think is the most powerful reason you would have felt at the moment you cut the rope?

Explanation… • In your groups, prepare SIMON’S EXPLANATION for why he cut the rope. • Use the explanation table mat and identify the features of an explanation. • Use only the known facts and plan your explanations. • Chose a SIMON in each group and consider questions and answers that he might have had to face when he returned to “civilisation”. We might throw this open to the class as a whole.
