  3. Who were the Plebeians? They were lower class citizens of Rome • Artisans • Farmers • Builders

  4. The Start of the Plebeian Before the Plebeian there were two groups of people there were the non-patricians and the poor people. These groups fused together to form the Plebeians, who demanded their rights.

  5. Advancement of the Plebeian The Plebeians had a very well built system. The Plebeians set up a representative body And also introduced the Office of Tribune This office set a representative to defend and veto any acts that were invasive to Plebeian life.

  6. Power in Numbers The Plebeians were a such a huge chunk of the population that they could vote almost anything out, or rebel in discontent. Such in the establishment of the Twelve Tablets, in which a Plebeian representative voted out a law that prohibited the marriage between Plebeian and Patrician

  7. From Professor Galinsky “ One key constituency for Augustus was the Plebeian population of Rome – and that is basically the city mob.” The main significance of Plebeian advancement would be how it shows the need for balance in government to make the people happy and make the state stable.
