Closed-Loop Geothermal System • The closed-loop Geothermal system include (8) water-cooled heat pump units, primarily loop water pumps, a 164 vertical well geothermal bore field, and associated piping. This system will work to create jobs, reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and leverage grant funding in a learning environment that can promote these initiatives to future generations. • ADVANTAGES • More efficient than the existing central heating and chiller water plant • Places the project in a better position to obtain LEED Gold Certification than more traditional systems • Excess capacity will be shared with CL-I building • Supports the College’s long standing “green” philosophy • Can be used as a teaching tool for sustainable design • SYSTEM ECONOMICS • Geothermal System Cost $1,783,000 • Less Conventional System Cost ($ 695,000) • DCEO Grant (Pending) ($ 420,000) • ICECF Grant (Pending) ($ 90,000) • Remaining Project Cost $ 578,000 • Modeled Annual Energy Cost Savings Compared to Traditional System: $76,000 • Simple Payback (Including Grants) 7.6 years
