  2. Step 1: Read the prompt carefully before you begin. Writing Situation:Your teacher punishes the whole class because one student misbehaved. How do you feel about this? Think about reasons you feel this way. Directions for Writing: Writea narrative essay explaining how you feel about this situation.

  3. Step 2: Take a stand. Think about the story you are going to tell that relates to the prompt.

  4. Consider the following prompt: Write a story telling about the best day you ever had.

  5. Begin with the introductory paragraph. • The introductory paragraph is formed from the topic sentence. My eighth birthday was the best day I ever had.

  14. Create a Plot Here is a good format to follow: Paragraph 1 – Introduction that states topic, character, setting, problem Paragraph 2 – complication Paragraph 3 – climax Paragraph 4 – resolution Paragraph 5 – Conclusion that reconnects narrative to topic

  15. Summary Paragraph As you can see, my eighth birthday was a most memorable celebration. Can Include: • Concluding sentence • Summary of other paragraphs • Feeling sentence • Question • Exclamation

  16. Summary Paragraph As you can see, my eighth birthday was a most memorable celebration. The party at the zoo, a delicious cake, and a special gift made it a memorable birthday. I think it was a superb way to remember the day I was born.

  17. Don’t Forget!! • Use formal language • Use vivid action verbs and modifiers • ALWAYS INCLUDE DIALOGUE!!!
