Forming an Affinity Group • What are the Requirements? • Name of the Section or Sections. • Name of the parent entity (e.g.: GOLD). • Name of the organizer (who becomes interim Chair pending election of a regular Chair at a later organization meeting). • Signatures of at least six (6) IEEE Members, other than Students, who are Members of the Section(s) involved.

What is GOLD? • GOLD is targeted at members who have recently graduated. • Programs are geared to highlight needs typical to this affinity group. • Assist young members in their transition between academic and professional life • Increase retention of recent graduates and their participation in IEEE.

  5. Mission of GOLD groups • The GOLD program has been established to provide the framework and tools for the Sections’ use in retaining this valuable group of members. By identifying those who make up this affinity group, determining their needs and expectations, and acting to meet those needs and expectations, the goal of GOLD is to add such value to the IEEE membership that the recent graduate finds it to be an indispensable professional tool.

  8. What kind of funding is there available for Affinity Groups? • The Annual Section Rebate. • Additional one-time funding is available for GOLD Affinity groups through Quick Start Incentive Funding (QSIF).

  9. Section Rebate • In order to maintain viability and to qualify for the Affinity Group portion ($180) of the annual Section Rebate, the Chair or other responsible individual must submit to the Section Secretary a report of the current officers, a report of meetings held in the previous year (at least TWO), and a roster of the Affinity Group's members.  Any financial activity should be reported to the Section Treasurer.

  10. Quick Start Incentive Funding (QSIF) • In order to facilitate starting a new GOLD committee in your Section, Society or Chapter during the present budget year, the IEEE RAB GOLD Committee is offering $200 US to form a GOLD Committee and to initiate GOLD activities. Funds are NOT available for GOLD committees that are already in existence.  This funding is available as a one-time only funding. 

  11. REGIONAL ACTIVITIES BOARD (RAB)GOLD AWARDS AND RECOGNITION PROGRAM • These awards are designed to recognize outstanding efforts by GOLD committees: • Section GOLD Leadership Award • Society GOLD Leadership Award • Region Outstanding GOLD Program • Outstanding GOLD Program Award

  12. Summary • GOLD-oriented programs add value by attracting another group of volunteers into participation. • GOLD programs can be the training ground for the next generation of IEEE leaders. • A GOLD group in the Section means more activities and more visibility.
