  1. Three Little Pigeons and the Big Bad Kitty Cat Once upon a time there were three little pigeons. There mom told them it was time to fly off and live on their own. The three little pigeons flew North, South and West to look for the best place to make their nests. The pigeon that flew North was flying along and saw a farmer with a load of cotton. He asked the farmer if he could borrow some of the cotton to make a nest. The farmer gladly gave him some. The pigeon found a branch of a tree that was low to the ground and made his nest. He was very proud. As he was getting comfortable he suddenly heard. “Little pigeon, little pigeon, let me come up.” The pigeon shivered but held up his beak and said, “No, no, no! Not by the feathers on my little bitty wings!” The voice said, “then I will climb, and claw and destroy your little nest. “ Then the pigeon heard the kitty cat claw up the tree and the pigeon got away just in time to see the kitten plucking cotton from his claws. The second pigeon who had flown South had seen a lady selling yarn and asked the lady if she could have some yarn to make a nest. The lady was happy to give the pigeon some yarn. The pigeon found a branch in the middle of the tree and made her nest. She was very proud. As she was getting comfortable she suddenly heard. “Little pigeon, little pigeon, let me come up.” The pigeon shivered but held up her beak and said, “No, no, no! Not by the feathers on my little bitty wings!” The voice said, “then I will climb, and claw and destroy your little nest.” Then the pigeon heard the kitty cat claw up the tree and the pigeon got away just in time to see the kitten plucking yarn from his claws.

  2. The third pigeon who had flown west was looking for nest materials as she flew along. She found twigs and sticks to make her nest in a high branch of a large oak tree. She was just settling down to enjoy her newly made shallow nest when she heard, “Little pigeon, little pigeon, let me come up! The pigeon shivered but held up her beak and said, “No, no, no! Not by the feathers on my little bitty wings!” The voice said, “then I will climb, and claw and destroy your little nest.” Then the pigeon heard the kitty cat claw up the tree. The pigeon stayed in her nest because she knew she had made it high enough to be safe from any silly kitten. The cat climbed and climbed but was running out of energy. She had gotten to the middle of the tree and looked down. All of sudden she realized she didn’t know how to get out of the tree. She clawed herself over to a branch and started to mew until a fireman came and got the kitten out of the tree. The pigeon lived happily ever after and she showed her brother and sister how to make a nest to stay safe from little kittens.
