  3. Strategy • Strategy, a word of military origin, refers to a plan of action designed to achieve a particular goal.

  4. Strategy • Strategy is distinct from tactics, which are concerned with the conduct of an engagement, while strategy is concerned with how different engagements are linked.

  5. Strategy • How a battle is fought is a matter of tactics: the terms and conditions that it is fought on and whether it should be fought at all is a matter of strategy. • There are four levels of warfare: political goals or grand strategy, strategy, operations, and tactics

  6. Strategy • Political goals or Grand Strategy • Example would be Germany in WWII

  7. Strategy • Strategy, operations • Example would be Germany invading France in WWII

  8. Strategy • Tactics • Example would be once the battle starts the the German SS using fire team rushes to overtake defensive positions.

  10. Evolution of the battlefield • The bow gave the common man a important role on the battlefield. • You did not need a lot of money to have a bow unlike the Knight. • The battlefield change quickly and tactics had to adapt.

  17. Evolution of Ammo • Without the evolution of ammo the rifle would not have advanced as quickly over the years. • A rifle is only as good as the ammo that it shoots.

  19. Lever-Action Rifle • The Lever Action rifle is a much faster shooting weapon and becomes very popular during westward expansion. • It was very durable and became a very popular weapon in the United States Calvary

  21. Evolution of the Rifle • The arrival of the Bolt-Action rifle provided a new style of weapon that was very accurate. • The Bolt-Action was very durable much like the Lever-Action but was more accurate at longer distances.

  22. Evolution of the Rifle • The Bolt-Action Rifle becomes very popular in infantry unites and is the rifle of choice • It is believed that the Bolt-Action rifle will force soldiers to fire an accurate shot.

  25. Evolution of the Rifle • As the rifle becomes more successful on the battlefield the infantry becomes more important. • Many Generals believed that the with the introduction of the Airplane and Tank, the infantry would fill a smaller roll.

  27. Evolution of the Rifle • The use of a semi-auto rifle becomes very popular to modern day infantry. • This gives the infantry more fire-power and spreads the battlefield out even more. • Every man has the ability to place multiple rounds down rang.

  28. Evolution of the Rifle • This new capability changes warfare and allows special operations teams the ability to maintain a high level of firepower in small groups. • This high rate of fire contributes to a produces a different mentality when it comes shooting in America culture.

  29. Evolution of the Rifle • The production of the M-16 and Ak-47 give a full-automatic option for ground troops and becomes the new age for infantry weapons. • There is also a major change in the size of ammo that is used

  30. Evolution of the Rifle • The U.S. Military moves to a 5.56 mm round • This round is smaller but allows the weapon to hold a larger number of bullets. • There are both pros and cons.

  32. North Atlantic Treaty Organization • The development of NATO has a major impact on the type of weapons and Ammo that are used in the U.S. Military. • This also impacts the the civilian market and the police force throughout the country. • Smaller becomes better.

  33. M-16 • The M-16 is a very accurate and light rifle. • It is easy to clean but malfunctions easily. • Has problems early but over time these become fixed.

  35. AK-47 • Soviet assault rifle that is the most produced weapon in the world today. • Does not have the range of the M-16 but shoots a heavier round and is full-Automatic. • Is a very durable weapon that is easy to break down and clean.
