Background and Rationale • Project 9 was developed in 2012 and introduced in 2013 to address long term data trend that indicated that Year 9 students attitudes to school were very poor. • The overarching aim of Project 9 is to improve: • student engagement • student connectedness to school • community awareness and engagement • student learning outcomes
Why was Project 9 introduced? Our student data indicated that students attitudes are below state mean across most areas

2012/13 Independent Survey Data…How have we progressed? What impact has Project 9 had in 2013? • 20% 94% either agree or strongly agree they feel connected to their teachers • 34% 96% either agree or strongly agree that they enjoy coming to school this year • 25% 90% either agree or strongly agree that they feel motivated to learn when in class • 8% 69% either agree or strongly agree that students in their class take learning seriously

Curriculum Overview PROJECT 9

Structure • Project 9 will run every Friday each week • Focus on 21st Century skills with real life applications • Curriculum content flows out into other subjects so attendance is crucial • Weekly agenda’s will be posted on the Year 9 office window by Wednesday each week
3 Way Partnership • 3 Meetings • Roll over 2013 • Mid 2014 • End of 2014 This partnership is crucial to the success for each student.
iPads • 1 to 1 iPad allocation - school use only • Acceptable user agreement • Must be signed by parent/guardian • Used as an engagement device to support learning • Also used in core subjects throughout the week • Utilised applications include • Keynote, iMovie, Pages, Skitch, Numbers and Camera
Visual Diary (A3 size) • Must have 1 for start of roll over (booklist) • Main form or work representation • Encourages creativity • Presentation of work in creative forms • See examples of work
Excursions • Experiential Learning - ‘Real life’ application • Crucial to related term work • Majority are fully funded through grant support from R.E ROSS TRUST. • Indemnity forms – return ASAP to Year 9 office • Mentor teachers – contact if issues
