SCHOOL FAMILY EDUCATION (SFE) • A family learning model for 3 target groups: • To equip PARENTSwith parenting skills & train them to become parent facilitators. • To help SCHOOL STAFF to enhance their family life. • To provide STUDENTS with life-skills training. • Programme Development: • 2002 ( piloted in 4 schools) • 2004 (18 schools) • 2005 (80 schools)

KEY FINDINGS & RECOMMENDATIONS • Good news abounded in SFE-participating schools. • SFE was increasingly accepted as a worthy curriculum in schools. • SFE has created immense improvements on family life. • SFE has helped improve personality traits of individuals. • SFE-Attendees were highly satisfied with SFE Programmes. • SFE-Attendees were advocates of SFE programmes, and want to recommend to Non-Attendees counterparts. • Readiness to Introduce SFE to ALL SCHOOLS. • Optimism from SFE-participating schools offers convincing evidences to non-participating schools. • Success stories serve as catalyst for earlier introduction of SFE in ALL schools. • Highly committed & loyal SFE-Attendees to serve as ambassadors for SFE. Proper training to be instituted to increase their power of persuasion.
KEY FINDINGS & RECOMMENDATIONS MCYS to be mindful of most-desired timeslot and duration when organizing SFE programmes. • Best TIMESLOT for SFE programmes. • For Parents : Saturday morning (25%) Saturday afternoon (25%) • For Staff : Weekday afternoon (60%) Weekday morning (20%) • Preferred DURATION of SFE sessions. • By Parents : 45 mins - 2 hour (80%) • By Staff : 1 hour or shorter (83%)
KEY FINDINGS & RECOMMENDATIONS • Family Life Centre (FLC) was well-managed & equipped. • MCYS to give its thumbs-up to the deserving schools as acknowledgement of a job well done. • Family Life Centre (FLC) has some caveats that need attention. • Non-Awareness of FLC was high. i. Among Parents : 67% ii. Among Staff : 34% • Non-Visit to FLC was even higher. i. Among Parents : 93% (past 6 months) ii. Among Staff : 72% (past 6 months) iii. Among Students : 71% (ever visited) • An effective ‘media plan’ to be instituted to raise awareness & visitation to FLC to higher levels.
