  3. PARISH RETREAT THEMES Monday 14th : Where have you been?“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”Mt 11 28-30 Tuesday 15th: Where are you ? God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments. Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me. Still, He knows what He is about. Blessed J.H Newman Wednesday 15th : Where will you be? Lord Jesus, You were sent by the Father to gather together those who are scattered. You came among us, doing good and bringing healing, announcing the Word of salvation and giving the Bread which lasts forever. Be our companion on life’s pilgrim way. May your Holy Spirit inflame our hearts, enliven our hope and open our minds, so that together with our sisters and brothers in faith we may recognise you in the Scriptures  and in the breaking of bread. May your Holy Spirit transform us into one body and lead us to walk humbly on the earth, in justice and love, as witnesses of your resurrection. In communion with Mary, whom you gave to us as our Mother at the foot of the cross, through you may all praise, honour and blessing be to the Father in the Holy Spirit and in the Church, now and forever. Amen Eucharistic Congress prayer

  4. Parish of Sandyford, Kilternan, Glencullen History The building of St. Mary's church began about 1806 but it was not roofed until 1830.  The vestry, belfry and spire were added ten years later and the front porches were built by 1853.  In 1956 and again in 1996 the church was extended.  The Baptistery has four windows of Netherlandish Glass crafted in 1510.  A ciborium, made in 1826, continues to be used for Holy communion. On 27th June 1909 St. Patrick's Church, Glencullen, was consecrated by Archbishop Walsh.  Made of beautiful granite, it replaced the church built in 1830. To mark the centenary of the Parish and with the increase in population, Archbishop Byrne blessed the church of Our Lady of the Wayside Kilternan in 1929.  'The little wooden church' is based on an Italian design.
