  1. THE TRUE GOSPEL Galations 1:1- 2:10

  2. Recognize the True GospelGal. 1:6-9 • There is only 1 true gospel! • The only gospel is the good news of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. • All other “gospels” are bogus. • Paul pronounced a curse on anyone who preached a false gospel.

  3. The Gospel • “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Rom. 3:23 • “For the wages of sin is death.” Rom. 6:23a • “But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Rom. 5:8 • “The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom. 6:23b • “Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in a new way of life.” Rom. 6:4 • “For everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” Rom. 10:13 • “This is the message of faith that we proclaim: if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. With the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation.” Rom. 10:8-10

  4. When faced with a possible false gospel, test it against Scripture, and ask, “Does it….” • point to Christ alone? Is it Christ-centered? • bring glory to God? • strengthen the Church? • bring freedom to individuals?

  5. Realize the Gospel is DivineGal. 1:11-12, 15-16 • Paul “certified” that the gospel he preached was not of human origin. • Paul received the gospel he preached by a direct revelation from Jesus. • Paul was certain of his being “set apart” for the purpose of the gospel.

  6. As followers of Jesus, we have God’s revelation in us AND we, too, are set apart for HIS gospel purpose. • Like Paul, we must be certain of our salvation and our calling as believers. • When we are clear about the true gospel’s being from God, we will reject these other so-called gospels.

  7. Refuse to Accept a CompromiseGal. 2:1-6 • False brothers ‘smuggled in’. • Circumcision was the issue. • Pressing legalism. • Paul refused to compromise his position on circumcision. • The gospel remained the good news of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus.

  8. Does our culture, our world, our governments, or even people in the Church that pressure us into compromising the true gospel? YOU BETCHA!!! • We must come to a greater, fuller understanding of the gospel. • We must stand on the foundation of Holy Scripture and test ANY idea on it. • We must oppose the pressure of the world regarding our gospel.

  9. 2 Timothy 1:8-14 • Jesus-centered • God-given • Works-free • Life-giving • Worth-living • Heaven-secured • “Hold onto it! Guard it!”

  10. CONCLUSION When we are clear about the one true gospel, we will: • Reject all efforts to change or add to it. • Reject other so-called gospels that place anyone or anything above Jesus and/or the Scriptures. • Reject any compromise of ideas or actions.
