  2. What is Web Conferencing? • A way to bring people from all over the world together without having to travel any farther than your computer!

  4. Other Reasons Why… • Brings the world to your students • Gives students social skills with people of various cultures • A whole lot cheaper than taking a field trip • Allows you to use technology to enhance learning • Motivates learners

  6. Two Basic Endpoint Types • Room systems • Desktop systems

Software Endpoints Compatibility: Most work only with Windows Operating System Monitor: Rely on your monitor for displaying video Webcam: Use USB webcam for capturing video A decent USB webcam will cost about $100 USD Might need headset Price: Most software packages run in the $150 USD per license range and offer a free trial period download

  8. Room Systems Cost: Wide Range $5k-600K Display: Will need a display device (Monitor, projector, etc) Location: Mostly set-top boxes Rack: Some can be rack-mounted Inputs: Some take multiple inputs for video Multiple cameras VGA/Scan converter Document camera

Instructional Technologist(site coordinator) • Coordinate with system administrator to address technical aspects of video conferencing set-up • There to assist with setup & operation of video conferencing equipment • Coordinate with content provider [ex. MAGPI] personnel to bring content to school/district • Work with Teacher(s) to integrate video conferencing into the classroom.

The event… ( what to consider) Mrs. Miller’s Mrs. White’s • Train students to think like a second grader and make material relevant to them. • Time for students to learn material, plan material, present material…TIME • Cut communication into chunks • appropriate for second graders. • Time for students to review and • reflect on lessons taught by the 6th • graders. • BOTH TEACHERS • Time to plan ahead for: equipment, materials, lessons • Parental permission • Collaboration with Technology Specialist • Permission from administrators
